Stephan B. Turner My Life in Words
I am best known for my work here in Chiang Mai with The Gate Theater Group. I am a stage actor, trained in classical as well as contemporary forms of theatre. I'm also a director, scenic artist, lighting designer and producer. My background experience includes Artistic Director of The Gary Creative Workshop Theater in the 70s, Founding member and Artistic Director of the Chicago Bryn Mawr Performance Co-op in the 80s, Founder and Artistic Director of Stage Actors Ensemble of Chicago and owner and Artistic Director of The Performance Loft Theater through the 90s, also in Chicago. I’ve lived in Chiang Mai for the past 18 years, working as an educator and theatre artist. I've recently retired from Chiang Mai International School where I was Department Head for the Theater Arts Program and Drama Teacher, to concentrate on my current roles as Artistic Director of The Gate Theater which is starting its 17th year. The Gate Theater is based in Northwest Indiana but our most active branch is here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. My partners and I have recently opened Chiang Mai Theatrics, a Theatre Arts Consultancy offering Performance Based Workshops and Technical Theatre Production Services.
